For Melbourne plumbers and handymen

Melbourne plumbers now answer to the Building and Plumbing Commission, and plenty of websites, quotes and signatures still name the VBA. LYD Plumber gives Melbourne plumbing and handyman businesses an AI receptionist, missed-call text-back, a CRM and a website, set up for Victoria rules: Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC) as the regulator, and reminders for the paperwork that applies there.

What is different in Melbourne

Built around how Melbourne trades work

From VBA to BPC

The BPC replaced the VBA on 1 July 2025. We update regulator references across your website, quote templates and AI receptionist answers as part of set-up.

Compliance certificates

Jobs over $750 need a compliance certificate within five days, and certificates bought from 22 September 2025 expire 12 months after purchase. Both dates can be tracked in the CRM.

A sprawling metro

Suburb pages for the growth corridors and the inner city let you rank where you actually want the work.

Typical service area we set up: Greater Melbourne, from the Mornington Peninsula to the northern and western growth corridors.

Plumbing and handyman rules in Victoria

Who regulates plumbing

Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC). Replaced the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) on 1 July 2025.

The Building and Plumbing Commission began on 1 July 2025, bringing together the functions of the VBA, Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria and the domestic building insurance arm of the VMIA. Victorian plumbers hold either a registration or a higher-level licence in each class of work, and only a licensed plumber can sign a compliance certificate.

Paperwork that applies

  • A licensed plumber must issue a compliance certificate when the total value of the work, including materials, appliances, labour and GST, is more than $750.
  • The certificate is issued within five days of completing the work.
  • Compliance certificates bought from 22 September 2025 expire 12 months after purchase, so unused stock needs watching.

Handyman licence limit

More than $10,000 needs a licence or registration

Domestic building work costing more than $10,000, including labour and materials, needs a builder registered with the BPC, and the same value triggers a major domestic building contract.
